BOCES Students are Winners at SkillsUSA

BOCES students captured first, second and third place at the SkillsUSA Regional Competition at SUNY Farmingdale.
Thirty-nine students from across the Career, Technical and Adult Education Programs of Eastern Suffolk BOCES specifically, Islip Career Center, Edward J. Milliken Technical Center, Suffolk Aviation Center, Brookhaven Technical Center, and HB Ward Technical and Academic Center, captured First, Second and Third Place at the SkillsUSA Regional Competition held at SUNY Farmingdale. Students competed in the areas of Food Prep Assistant, Architectural Design, Aviation Science/Flight, Commercial Baking, Cosmetology, Criminal Justice, Culinary Arts, Preschool Teacher Assisting, Residential Wiring, Floral Arrangement, Auto Service, TV & Video Production, Job Interview, Advertising Design, Prepared Speech, Pin Contest and Opening and Closing Ceremony.
SkillsUSA prepares America's high performance workers. It provides quality education experiences for students in leadership, teamwork, citizenship and character development. It builds and reinforces self-confidence, work attitudes and communications skills. It emphasizes total quality at work, high ethical standards, superior work skills, life-long education and pride in the dignity of work. SkillsUSA also promotes understanding of the free enterprise system and involvement in community service activities.
Many of the BOCES students will compete at the State SkillsUSA Competition, April 5,6,7 in Syracuse.
